Did it stop where it should? Is it idling excessively? Was fuel used as expected? Can the engine be disabled if the vehicle is stolen? A successful implementation starts by deciding which answers matter most to your operation.
Start With the Risks You Need to Control
Before selecting devices or scheduling installation, identify the losses and security gaps affecting your vehicles. A business experiencing unauthorized vehicle use has different priorities from one dealing with route delays, fuel losses, or poor driver behavior. Trying to solve every issue at once can make the dashboard crowded and the rollout harder for staff to adopt.

If a driver repeatedly idles for long periods, speak with the driver, understand the operational reason, and set an appropriate expectation. If route playback shows unauthorized detours, verify whether dispatch instructions changed before assuming misconduct. Context matters, especially in congested areas, poor road conditions, or locations where drivers must wait for customers.
Fuel data also needs careful interpretation. A sudden variance can signal theft, but it can also result from sensor calibration issues, route changes, traffic delays, or incomplete fuel records. Compare telematics information with fuel receipts, assigned routes, engine hours, and delivery activity. Consistent patterns are more meaningful than a single unusual report.
Dash camera events should be reviewed with the same discipline. Camera footage can support driver coaching, clarify accident claims, and document dangerous road events. It should not become a source of constant micromanagement. Define who can access footage, how incidents are reviewed, and how long records are retained.
Create a Response Procedure for Security Events
When a vehicle moves without authorization, time matters.
